RE: Class A being towed. For those that wonder how..

If you think 2 official languages in one country is a problem consider little Switzerland which has 4 official languages: German, French, Italian, & Romansh.

RE: HOW LONG??

The economy is currently in a recession or just a down turn, depends on who you ask. Either way, it isn't very good. Enjoy the sub $2/gal. gas prices. The economy will come back at some point in the future, then gas prices will get back to the $4/gal or higher range.

RE: Wax on wax off?

I have always applied and polished NuFinish by hand on my 37 ft. motorhome. I spread the job over two days and spend a total of 8 hours to do the job.

Both are good engines, personally I prefer the Ford V-10.

RE: RV's and state weigh stations

I've been driving class A motorhomes for most of the past 37 years through a good part of the USA and have never seen a motorhome in a weigh station.

RE: If you are over 65 where do you see yourself in ten years?

I'll be 85 and hopefully still RVing. Gasoline will probably be $10-$15/gal., so the biggest issue will be how many miles of motorhome travel will I be able to afford per year.

RE: Is Winnebago next?

Winnebago has been in business for over 40 years and have seen similar issues before. The early 1970s saw fuel prices doubling, the doubling happened again in the early 1980s and they survived those challenges. They have no long term debt, therefore can withstand declining sales better than most of their competition. They'll be around for a while.

RE: RVing is cheaper than car & motel, cost calculation

Calculating all costs relating to a motorhome, it will be more expensive than the car/motel scene. That said I prefer the motorhome because I enjoy the lifestyle and can afford it . Can golfers financially justify their sport? How about boaters ? hunters ? fisherman? etc. Virtually any hobby/sport/recreational activity will be difficult to justify financially-- YOU DO IT BECAUSE YOU ENJOY IT !

RE: Driving and RV

I've been driving motorhomes since 1969. I can barely remember the first time, but I'm sure I was nervous. Later in the 1970s and 1980s we did a lot of winter driving (some at night)in very snowy, icy conditions going to ski areas in western New York, Vermont, and the mountains of Colorado. Initially I was intimidated doing that, however I became comfortable driving in those conditions, so almost 40 years later, I'm not intimidated by much on the road, but I admit I've given up the extreme snowy and icy travel conditions to the younger generation now that I'm 75.

RE: Chevy engine vs V-10

Workhorse is now owned by Navistar (International). I would imagine they will eventually dump GM as their primary engine supplier, utilizing their own engines as well others (Ford, etc.). GM will soon replace the 8.1 liter engine as it is old technology.

RE: chevy-allison

GM sold most of the Allison Division to a private equity group last year for $5.6 billion, only retaining the 1000 series transmissions for GM's use.

RE: How loud is basement A/C ?

I had a 35U Winnebago and loved the basement air, much better than the roof air I now have on my 37DB Allegro Bay, no comparison.

RE: Monaco shuts down majority of operations in Indiana

Each time we've had a huge fuel price increase in the past (early 1970s and early 1980s) weaker RV manufacturers have folded. It appears the same is occurring now: Alfa, National, etc. Winnebago and hopefully Monaco and other reasonably strong companies will survive by cutting back as they have in the past.

RE: basement air vs roof air

I've had both, currently have roof air, and prefer basement air. Basement air is quieter and you don't have those unsightly pods on the roof dripping water everywhere.

RE: PROPANE R V

No, I haven't heard about recent propane conversions, however in the 1970s several motorhome manufacturers (including Winnebago) offered at an additional cost, propane/gasoline fueled motorhomes. You could switch from one fuel to the other.

RE: What to Pay for Winnebago

I've got a 2006 Tiffin Allegro Bay 37DB which is priced around that of the Winnebago Adventurer 38, full body paint, etc. If I wanted to sell it I doubt I could get over $80K.

Therefore if we were on the Euro instead of the dollar, oil would be 50% less than it is now.

RE: Ford or chevy

Ford vs. Chevy, Democrat vs. Republican, Coke vs. Pepsi, paper vs. plastic--- any discussion of these topics brings high emotions and no compromises. A bit like a shoot out in the old West.
